  • Comic Strip & another interesting something

Two guys are talking to each other, and one of them says he has a question for God.
He wants to ask why God allows all of this poverty and war and suffering to exist in the world. And his friend says, "Well, why don't you ask?"
The fellow shakes his head and says he is scared.
When his friend asks why, he mutters, "I'm scared God will ask me the same question."
Over and over, when I ask God why all of these injustices are allowed to exist in the world, I can feel the Spirit whisper to me, "You tell me why we allow this to happen. You are my body, my hands, my feet."

Another interesting something I read: (nineteenth-century Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard)
"The matter is quite simple. The Bible is very easy to understand.
But we as Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers.
We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well
that the minute we understand, we are obliged to act accordingly.
Take any words in the New Testament and forget everything except
pledging yourself to act accordingly. My God, you will say, if I do that
my whole life will be ruined. How would I ever get on in the world?
Herein lies the real place of Christian scholarship. Christian scholarship
is the Church's prodigious invention to defend itself against the Bible,
to ensure that we can continue to be good Christians without the Bible
coming too close. Oh, priceless scholarship, what would we do w/o you?
Dreadful it is to fall into the hands of the living God. Yes, it is even dreadful
to be alone with the New Testament."

  • man, life is such a roller coaster.
I wish it would be somewhat consistant.
but once you fall asleep and wake up,
everything is different from when you fell asleep (at least for me...).
I guess it would be boring if it was always the same?

Here's some notes from a video I saw at PJ's house last night:

    Characteristics of a leader

    1) Holy Fear
People will look at you and decide what they believe about God. Don't ever let down your witness. Pray this: "Lord touch my lips".
Have a Holy fear, be clothed with humility. We're the donkey that carried Jesus through the crowd on his shoulders.
    2) Always be humble
Ambition is always a sin. It's not for yourself. We have nothing to be proud of.
    3) Be a servant
         Serving God & others
    4) Have moral authority
One who is not seeking power. We are most dangerous when we are self sufficient.
    5) Have Accountability
Don't try to go at it alone.
    6) Be faithful Biblically
    7) Be a visionary leader
God helps those who can't help themselves. Teach people how to know truth.
    8) Have courage
Do what you think is right. Have Godly confidence. Courage to challenge people & say "that isn't right".
    9) Do your duty
Out of gratitude for what Christ did for you. (kinda opposite of Pastor Matt's lesson at the retreat-"live by faith"...this is what went through my mind as I wrote this one down)

Personally #1 touched me the most when I was watching this...especially the donkey part. (I never thought of that)

  • Reading does a body good~I'm tellin u~

" How would telling people to be nice to one another get a man crucified? What government would execute Mister Rogers or Captain Kangaroo?"- Philip Yancey

" The ultimate risk anyone ever takes is to love, for as C.S. Lewis says, "Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal." But God does give it, again and again, until he is literally  bleeding from it all.- C.S. Lewis

" From cover to cover, from beginning to end, the cry of God's heart is, "Why won't you choose Me?" It is amazing to me how humble, how vulnerable God is on this point. "You will...find me," says the Lord, "when you seek me with all your heart" (Jer. 29:13). God waits to be wanted." - John Eldredge

" Yes, I know that Jesus told us to turn the other cheek. But we have really misused that verse. You cannot teach a boy to use his strength by stripping him of it. Jesus was able to retaliate, believe me. But he chose not to. And yet we suggest that a boy who is mocked, shamed before his fellows, stripped of all power and dignity should stay in that beaten place because Jesus wants him there? You will emasculate him for life. From that point on all will be passive and fearful. He will grow up never knowing how to stand his ground, never knowing if he is a man indeed. Oh yes, he will be courteous, sweet even, deferential, minding all his manners. It may look moral, it may look like turning the other cheek, but it is merely weakness. You cannot turn a cheek you do not have. Our churches are full of such men."- John Eldredge

" No man, for any considerable period of time, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the truth." - Nathaniel Hawthorne

" The deepest desire of our hearts is for union with God. God created us for union with himself. This is the original purpose of our lives."- Brennan Manning

How do we know God and how does God know us?~by our obedience. Plain and simple. Got obedience?

  • interesting sentences I took note of while reading:

"God usually meets us on OUR level of expectancy. What you receive is directly connected to what you believe."
"You will never rise above the image you have of yourself in your own mind. Only as you believe it will you ever see it. You've got to look out through your eyes of faith and see it. Once you see it by faith, it can come into existence into the physical world."
"You're going to become what you believe."
"What YOU believe has a much greater impact on your life than what anybody else believes."
"If one dream dies, dream another dream."

These sentences are so profound & challenging, made me think of where my level of expectancy is. (Reading does a body good) one more:

"Stop talking to God about how big your mountains are, and start talking to your mountains about how big your God is!"

  • Mexico 08 notes for myself...before i forget...

DAY 1: Daniel's prayer really blessed me. basically he said, "thank you for giving him a second chance & Show him that you are REAL."

DAY 2: We saw alot of kids respond to wanting to pray for salvation & i was lucky enough to witness God's work being done in little kids.

DAY 3: I was challenged to give my testimony about my struggles of smoking and drinking, which i first said i wasn't ready to, but eventually i was convinced that i was ready...& sam said he talked to one person after who said they related to my struggles and was challenged to stop and he wanted to help his whole family stop as well. Testimonies are STRONGER than u think~

DAY 4: again i was lucky enough to witness little kids praying for salvation. (the feeling is unexplainable watching little kids really praying for salvation, unexplainable...) At night i prayed silently that i may be able to speak in tongue(the first time i ever prayed for that), and right after i finished praying, Andrew came up to me and asked if i can speak in tongue. he told me he wanted to pray that i receive the gift of tongue(coincidence?). After he prayed for me nothing happened tho.

DAY 5: We went to a village called "Blue Water" and they said we were the first missionaries ever to go there (i was skeptical about that) but the people were more "out there" when we asked for them to respond if they wanted to be saved. Nobody raised their hand the first time,Pastor Joseph basically rephrased what he first said and asked a second time if anybody wanted to be saved, and i saw one man raise his hand, so i jumped up and ran to him to pray for him. during my prayer i started speakin in tongue without even noticing it. after i was done praying i looked up and saw many others had raised their hand and were being prayed for.

The feeling of being in mexico for missions is so different than the normal feeling of life here in the states. So different it's scary...
